Does Combining Certain Assessments Impact Student Success?
July 2nd, 2024
Learning Designer April Millet partnered with former Dutton intern Dr. Emre Dinç and Professor of Geosciences Timothy Bralower to investigate the effect of different types of assessments on overall student success in Dr. Bralower's online undergraduate course.
Multiple data analysis techniques were used to examine quantitative data from four types of graded assessments (quizzes, lab assignments, mid-term exams, and a capstone project) and one type of ungraded assessment (knowledge checks spread throughout the course content). The results showed that different types of assessment in an online course are complementary and amplify student learning.
