Mark Wherley

I began working for the Geography department at Penn State in 1995 as a cartographer, creating maps for textbooks and designing interactive activities to supplement textbooks. In 2000, I moved into my current position as a learning designer with the Dutton Institute. I work with faculty within the college to develop new online courses or develop online versions of courses that were originally delivered face-to-face. I am a member of the Dutton Institute Safety Committee and the Dutton Institute Green Team. I am also a member of the Penn State Learning Design Liaisons group and I serve on the Academic Integrity Committee for the College of EMS. 

Outside of work, I enjoy riding bicycles (both on- and off-road), kayaking, and hiking the roads and trails of central PA. When the weather turns cold, I like to go snowshoeing along many of the same trails that I hike and ride in the warmer months. I also enjoy photography and have recently started flying my drone to capture 360-degree panoramic photographs of the rivers, trails, and vistas wherever I am. In 2022, my wife and I started keeping bees. If I’m not outside, I enjoy researching family history and digitally restoring old photographs.
